There are people who make great music. Then there are people who’s music, in my opinion, transcend time. They just make great songs. They have great hooks, and people just flat out like them, no matter who you are. I started listening to Tom Petty in high school. I had heard of him before that, but I was on a school trip and borrowed someone’s greatest hits CD’s. I wore it out. Then, a few years ago, I bought his Running Down a Dream DVD. Hit after Hit would come on. This guy pumped out great songs. I mean, last night, within 1 or 2 bars everyone knew what song they were playing and would cheer as if that one was their favorite. Then there’s his band. They are all awesome players. But I think what makes them awesome, is that they are a band. One Sound. They are so tight and together. Few bands ever know this kind of relationship. The rhythm section lays such a great foundation for the melody of the song to really stand out. Then, Mike Campbell does his deal and adds the simple, cool hooks right in the holes. The songs are 3 chord wonders. It just goes to show you, that at the end of the day, it’s about great songs, with great parts. Doesn’t matter, when they were made or how old you are or even the production value. A great song is a great song.
This week has been an awesome week of loving, serving and connecting with families at the Lighthouse Retreat who’s lives have been impacted by childhood cancer. I love watching families, who are stressed and reserved come to life at the beach over the course of one week. For some, they literally get their life back. The mission of the Lighthouse is to help families laugh, restore family relationships and find hope in God. This has definitely happen this week. The volunteers have been so great. We have so many from adults to little kids who have all come to love and serve people. This week we had a large group of high school students from Alpharetta, and they are absolutely incredible!
This has been a great week to end one of the best summers. We had a chance to see God do so much and experience Him in some really unique ways. I know that people, families, cities, and nations will not be the same as a result of what He has done this summer. More on that later.
